Week In Review: Catching Up and Moving Forward

Week In Review: Catching Up and Moving Forward

Hey friends,

Last week was a big one. Wow. It was full of catching up on things I finally had time for, as WELL as filling in spaces with new things as I move forward into a new phase.  In retrospect, I see that I could have given myself more down time and not felt so rushed to get things going, but… I want to get things going. I want to get everything done on my outstanding to do list so that I can feel able to start the new things with an open slate. Its a messy time – which I’ve accepted – and it will be a while until I have a new routine to be able to sink into. But I’d rather spend less time in this messy transition phase and start to feel settled, as soon as possible.

That being said, once my parents left, I did let myself have a good amount of time to just… be at home. Alone.  To slowly tick off little homey to-do things in a productive, yet gentle way. I really needed that quiet time to myself, and once I had it, I felt so much better. Most of the week felt really good – albeit strange –  as I got things done. I even felt a twinge of excitement at my return of independence.

To summarize some of the highlights of all the productivity I had this week, I’m getting back to a good ol’ list and linking up with Meg

Last week I…

Spent a final day with my parents, brought some fabulous take out back to our apartment, and have been successfully living off a collection of leftovers since. Havn’t even cooked once

Take out bowls from Urban Herbivore

Then I started CATCHING UP.

Cleaned my apartment. Mostly meaning dusted all the shelves.

Unpacked my backpack. Went to the theatre and cleaned out my locker, dropped off all the stuff I needed to hand in, and got a SWEET haul from the pile of junk things left behind. Swipe!

Did my laundry and started a bag of things to get rid of.

Treated myself to a new journal and a new box of tea

Finally got my blood work done

Submitted a big catch up of recipes and got some added to my Healthy Aperture and Finding Vegan pages. Put out a post of recent foodie stuff as well as a two-parter catch up on the ways I’ve been implementing more unplugging into my life

Kept super ontop of emails – deleting/replying/responding/sending  – and did more unsubscribing.

Spent a hefty amount of time trying to find a planner online for the remainder of 2017. A very hard thing to find at this time of year! Finally found the perfect one – and on super sale. Cha-ching.

Picked up said planner and – after a crazy day of walking around the city to various errands – collapsed to immediately crack it open and ORGANIZE MY LIFE.

catching up

Worked a few morning shifts at the breakfast restaurant – all the while being clear it is only for the interim.

Had THREE job interviews over two days. I’m trying to keep my options open so I can find a job that will be best for my happiness, but also with the best hours to keep my actual goals and acting career at the forefront. Oh that thing, right.

One of these interviews happened to be at – my favorite – Toris Bakeshop! (can you imagine if I worked there? Cinnamon buns ALL THE TIME).  Of course I took the opportunity to go early and have a date with an americano and vegan chocolate chip banana muffin. I spent the time organizing and recording all my audition submissions. Finally having this clarity in my own brain felt SO good.

catching up

Was introduced to the world of Motion Capture screening. Just call me Lara Croft.

Went to TWO shows. One silly operetta with my best friend I hadn’t seen in months, and another incredible – incredible – rendition of Hamlet with sign language and a female lead.

I met with two industry professionals. One of which I was super nervous to see, but it ended up being absolutely wonderful and encouraging. Exactly what I needed at that moment.

By the time Saturday came I realized I had been going pretty hard. Dan came and we spent a nice relaxing day together. We…

Went to see the Cherry Blossoms at High Park

catching up

Checked out a new coffeeshop called Field TripWe shared a beer cheddar scone. Guys… I think this might have seriously just won the spot of my new favorite scone. Also, a great Americano.

catching up

Watched Fargo – a movie that had been on the list forever.

Went to Fresh for dinner with a buddy of ours.

And managed to schedule in a couple auditions for this coming week amongst starting trial shifts at another job and attending a three day workshop.

Transition week. Catching up and moving forward. #weekinreview #lists #accomplishments #movingforward Click To Tweet

Its going to be another crazy one. But soon I will have gotten the crazy phase out of the way and will hopefully be able to feel more settled. Soon….?

Tell me,

What did you catch up on last week?

What did you do that was new or gave you a sense of moving forward?

Any cherry blossoms in your area?

Wow what a fun action packed week! A busy one but one that seems to have been full of things that make you smile and laugh – they are the best ones!
Things always seems to be moving for me, but I know I always feel settled when I am sitting in my lovely apartment with David at the end of the day. Being surrounded with my belongings and David by my side makes me feel calm and grounded. Even if the world seems to be moving at rapid speed there is something lovely about some tv time, good company, good food and an evening to simply chill out.

We need those rocks in our lives… those bits of routine, a sense of home and people who ground us. They are what allows our lives to be crazy and ever moving, because they always bring us back and reset us!

  2. Susie @ Suzlyfe | 1st May 17

It sounds like you had a very full, busy, active, and successful week, Cora. You really tackled a lot–mentally and physically, and I hope you met yourself in the middle–not too much in the rearview, not too much in the windshield.
I think you did meet yourself in the present by taking the time to go and see the cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms are my favorite blooming time in the year. So much beauty and fragility in a world that is anything but. And yet, the world that is anything but respects them. It is ironic.

Huh. Quite ironic, is right. I’m doing a lot of trying to meet myself in the middle right now. I’m either swamped with too many crazy things in my schedule, or at a loss as to how to spend my new time.

  3. Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy | 1st May 17

Whoa, that motion capture stuff looks so cool! I love the feeling of just knocking things off the list – cleaning, pampering myself with new things, unsubscribing. It sounds like an exhilerating week, Cora! And I understand about finding the best job for the interim – you want to be happy and not stressed about the part time job while you’re looking for your ultimate calling. But cinnamon buns at work sounds delightful!

It was a week of knocking stuff off the list… not all the time but sometimes, that feels SO good to do.

  4. Jamie@TheMomGene | 1st May 17

Funny story…I was going to respond to your two-part series on unplugging BUT it worked so well that I decided to put the gadgets away and mostly play this weekend. Glorious. I’m trying to practice it on the regular. I would love to see that rendition of Hamlet. I’ve seen almost every “style” out there, but the sign language and female lead has me intrigued. Good luck on auditions and jobs and life this week!

Aha YES! I wish I had gotten NO comments on either of those posts so I knew people were really taking it to heart, lol. Please feel free to unplug rather than comment on my blog any time. Just let me know you are still alive 🙂

It’s interesting that even when our brains seem to be caught up in turbulence, our bodies seem to keep on going. Beer cheddar scones can certain help in that department. I’m so excited for your planner. I so enjoy my paper one, and really get a kick out of decorating it. It’s light, carefree, and creativity without taxing me mentally. I hope yours can be the same for you.

You’re doing awesome. Keep doing you.

I think it will be. Its so much more calming to see my week/month laid out for me on paper than crammed into a phone screen. I need to get another beer cheddar scone. Stat.

  6. Emily Swanson | 1st May 17

It’s seriously amazing to see the beauty of spring; I love slowing down to look at all the beauty around us. The pictures of the blossoms are STUNNING Cora! God is an amazing Creator.

That would be super cool if you got to work at a Bake shop. That would help us conquer any fear of baked goods, right? I also love how you got to catch up on home things; that always feels really good. On Saturday we had a giant snow storm here, so it was a really wonderful day to catch up on house cleaning, hanging out with the husky pups, baking a bit, and just enjoying a really quiet slow day. 🙂

Let’s slow down more, right? 🙂

Its too late in the year for snow storms!! But I’m glad it allowed you a day in to get those wonderful little things done and slow down. Sometimes those things are hard to do when we have other things we feel we “have” to do. Blegh…

  7. Miss Polkadot | 1st May 17

Crazy (busy) definitely seems like the best way to sum up your week. It sounds like the period of rest after graduating isn’t happening for you but if it works and doesn’t overstrain you then why not?!
Fingers crossed for all of the auditions and job interviews! Regarding the latter particularly for Tori’s Bakeahop obviously. I hope this transitional phase of life will be a good one for you. The beginning looks promising so far.

    • Cora | 7th May 17

Yeah, I havn’t really given myself the chance to get bored. Maybe I should have… I’m not sure. Its been crazy but I don’t feel over strained, so I think its ok? Thanks hun. Transiton is weird, but I sure hope it sorts out soon too.

  8. Heather @ Polyglot Jot | 1st May 17

    Woah you’re on a roll! 😀 Or maybe you’re on a cinnamon bun?? 😀
I started sifting and organizing baby girl’s things from my shower and made a list of items we still need. We have beautiful cherry blossoms in the Philadelphia area right now–its so so pretty!

Ha! Can I just roll around on a Cinnamon bun instead of all this adulting stuff? Please?

  9. Hannah | 1st May 17

Your catch up week (and all the coffee and baked goods, yum) sounds lovely…I’m in serious need of one myself.

    • Cora | 7th May 17

We should all be allowed to just schedule catch up weeks in for ourselves

  10. Heather | 1st May 17

I love cherry blossoms, but alas have no idea if we have any near us. I enjoy them when I find them, though! I would be doomed if I worked at a bakery of any kind… I LOVE all baked goods equally and would probably overeat. Haha!

Oh god I would eat everything all the time. But I’m kind of okay with that idea….

  11. Kat | 1st May 17

What an action packed week for you!! Lots of good stuff happening here girlie – and your food, as always, has me drooling. Also, I never crave going to a coffee shop until I come to your blog, then I’m like, “hmmm I should head to a coffee shop today for work.” 😉 It never happens – but it always has me craving it. Maybe one day I’ll finally break down and treat myself!
Also, if I don’t have a planner my life is in shambles. I literally sleep with the thing.

Lol. The movie!! I actually liked it, but it is definitely unique…

  15. Kristy from Southern In Law | 2nd May 17

Whaaat, that is so cool that you got to do some motion capture screening. Jesse would love to do that as he’s such a gamer geek 😛

Cherry blossoms are my faaaaaaavourite so I’m a little bit jealous. We just have crunchy autumn leaves in the land down under 😉

    • Cora | 7th May 17

Haha yeah it was my first toe-dip into it all… Im such a loss with technology and the whole gaming world, so it was cool to learn!! Crunchy leaves are funner to jump in that fallen blossoms!

So happy to hear you were able to get quiet time in. There’s nothing like checking stuff off The List! Organizing and writing things down in my planner is pretty calming and fulfilling too.
Usually we’re in sync mentally but looks like we’re in sync in other aspects of our lives also as I too got more bloodwork done and have been looking for a coffeeshop/bakery job for the summer. How’d the interviews go??
Motion capture screening…. Whaaaat!!?? ? Also, I know I say this basically every single time you post a picture of a scone but I am so jealous of your scone-game. Totally gotta get on your level!!
