Rather than calling it “current lack of creativity,” let’s call it “jumping in on the fun!” shall we? Let’s look into a (tues)day in the life at a Theatre Training Conservatory. Centering around meals, obviously. WIAW style.
Thanks Jenn, Laura and Arman for letting “the show go on.”
5:40 Radio alarm sounds. CBC radio 2.
5:50 Phone alarm sounds. Not so nice. Press snooze on both. Turn over and go back to sleep.
6:30 Gradually come to and realize both alarms have been playing for 20 minutes. “Ah ****.” Get out of bed. Go to publish recipe post, realize my last edit didn’t save. “It’s going to be one of those days isn’t it?” Re-edit post and hit publish.
7 :00: Wash face, brush teeth, get dressed, clean up/put away dishes, 20 minutes of stretching/yoga.
7:45: Make decaf coffee, plate breakfast (of my new freshly baked muffins), find a last minute monologue I forgot about, sit and eat while reading emails and blogs.
8:45: Throw lunch and scripts into bag, jump onto bike, head to theatre.
Two of my “best banana muffins” + bosc pear + drizzles of peanut butter
9-10: Voice coaching. Warm ups/breathe work/singing/rehearse text.
10-11: Meet partner to rehearse a song for an upcoming showcase. Realize only 15 minutes in that, “it ain’t happening.” (letting go of expectations, right?). Feeling super off so stay in studio to do some breathing and grounding exercises on my own. ” …Much better.
11:20-12:20: Movement work. Today we focused on releasing the jaw (see? I ain’t lying). Ho boy do I need to do more of this. That thing was solid as a rock.
12:30: Lunch break
Get lunch from fridge and find my usual spot in our cafe.
Leftovers mixed into a salad of spinach + kale + lentils + quinoa + nuts + sweet potato + cherry tomatoes + a smokey/sweet tahini maple dressing
12:50: Putz on laptop and warm up by fireplace while replying to the lovely comments from Monday’s WIR post.
Decaf tea + apple
1:30-5:30: Mask Rehearsal. Played around with these silly fellas for 4 hours. Its harder than you’d think.
Look at that face…
5:30: Early end to the day (rare!). Bike to grocery store to get a few ingredients for last minute dinner decision.
6:00: Arrive home, throw all my gear onto the floor and begin peeling potatoes before my coat is even off. I’m a tad excited.
Make Meg’s Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes, following her recipe exactly except for halfing the red pepper flakes (my wimpy tastebuds). This was my first attempt at making scalloped potatoes (#tatervirgin). I never got a traditional Easter dinner on the weekend, and darn tootin’ I was determined to have one.
Cheeeeeessssee. Plus, Meg’s spice mix is brilliant.
6:30: Take off coat, put away notes, lunch dishes and groceries. Clean up mess. Make rest of dinner while potatoes are cooking.
7:30: Dinner. Sit down, dig in, salivate. It’s been way too long since I’ve delved into a good load of cheesy potatoes. Think, “real foooood” as I try to pace myself.
Cheddar Scalloped Potatoes + Steamed Broccoli + Breakfast Sausage Links
Those little crispy bits… swoon.
8:00: Digest while blog reading. Throw together a bread pudding to make use of old banana bread. Wash dishes, wipe counters, put together lunch for tomorrow, quick shower.
8:50: Take out bread pudding. Put on PJS, boil kettle for tea, plate evening snack. Plunk down on couch with heat pad. Nibble and sip away while writing this post.
Get totally shocked when I realize jelly bean flavors are actually in accordance to their color?! Since when is green mint? And yellow is lemon? Obviously I hadn’t had jelly beans in over a decade.
Easter Snack Plate. Cookie dough filled Easter Bunny + Jelly Beans
10:30: Finish post. Realize I still need to learn a Shakespearean sonnet for tomorrow. “Ah ****.”
Funny how days end just how they began…
11:50: Eyes are closing. Wash face, brush teeth, jump into bed. Gonezo. From muffins to cheesy potatoes to half butchered easter bunnies. A Day In the Life and a Day of Eats Together in one! Click To Tweet
It’s been very strange now that my days have slowed down and I’m actually not at my studio until 10 pm every night. I’d call this a pretty dull day, but a nice day with a good balance of my two passions: theatre and good food.
Just a little peak into my little life for ya. Have a wonderful week you foodies!
Do you ever start making dinner before even taking off your coat?
Jelly Bean fan? (I’m not sure about those green ones…)
Do you ever say “darn tootin?” Who the heck made that one up…
Not a hugely exciting week. But I did get a few nice things…
