Recent Eats: All The Toast, All The Carbs, All The Breakfast

Well, I finally got to the grocery store. 

Ehhhhhh meee.

It had been weeks. Thank you Dan for having much more adult responsibility and helping keep me alive.

Groceries or no groceries, here are a few things I’ve been enjoying lately. Mostly breakfasts because, well, it’s me. Many a good thing have escaped the eye of the camera phone. Like life, sometimes the undocumented things just mean you were too busy enjoying them. Also, winter lighting.

I have been craving toast sooo much. Like, all the time. Every morning that’s all I want. I splurged on some Silver Hills organic cinnamon raisin bread the other week so have been trying to savor it. Man I had been craving cinnamon raisin bread for an eternity. Spread with peanut butter or cream cheese. Not sure which I like better. Seriously just as long as its toast. Or a bagel…

Breakfast sandwiches

Like I’ve quickly mentioned, Dan is not eating gluten right now. Still however, I was determined to make sure he could still have his beloved breakfast sandwiches, so I picked up some glutino english muffins. They were great! Not like a real english muffin, no, but really tasty in their own way. We devoured the package by making a few renditions of breakfast sandwiches. This one….. oh no look at that picture. How awful. See? This is why my picture taking has decreased….. sorry, I’m back…. this one was 1 fried egg+ smoked gouda + organic pea meal bacon + mayo + tomato. It tasted way better than it looks, I promise. 

And most importantly, Dan still loved it.

Always the leftover baking.

I’m back to some yogurt bowls. I don’t know if you remember, but during all my stomach pains I stopped having yogurt because it seemed to be one of the main proponents of said pain. I bought my first tub in a number of months and I think its been going okay…

Chai pumpkin loaf (replaced butternut squash) + organic 2% yogurt + banana + blackberries + peanut butter


There have been soooo many early morning, take from home, breakfasts lately. I’ve had so many early morning appointments squeezed in, which have meant many early morning streetcar rides, time to kill in coffeeshops, and thus hello tupperwares. 

Overnight oats: 1/2 cup oats + peanut butter + banana + blackberries + almond milk + granola

Lots of leftover quick loaf or muffins from the freezer + peanut butter + fruit

Breakfast for lunch

This was a lunch at home. Lunches at home seem to be interchangeable with my breakfasts. Breakfast food is just home food, you know?

3 slices gluten free cornbread with butter and jam + 2 scrambled eggs

Finally I restocked myself up with this bad boy. Man its good. And it lasts in the fridge for a good long time so you can have leftovers for days and serve it multiple ways. My favorite still is, and will always be, the combo of drippy egg meets avocado.

Until I find the time to use my new waffle maker (!!!)….. toaster waffles.

Dan’s rubbing off on me, with his eggs and potatoes silliness. On this morning, I really really wanted a bagel. But I also had things in my fridge I really wanted to use up and was feeling exceptionally foggy brained. So I ended up making this little masterpiece. Post picture was a topping of chives and side of ketchup. Totally sad I forgot the chives in the picture. #fancyphotofail

I’ve been either going out or to work early for a lot of lunches lately. I don’t know… I can get higher calorie options there, without having to think about it. It’s just easier that way, you know? Since my remount of motivation, my first “goal” was to give in to my craving for wraps. Like my massive craving for toast. Hmm… seems to be a connection there. So, wraps and burgers instead of salads and soups. So delicious. This is my current favorite wrap… battered butternut squash + kale + beet sauerkraut + lots of avocado + lots of creamy jalopeno lime sauce. 

Something else I’ve been learning…. I am SUCH saucy person. No matter the amount of sauce already on the burger or wrap, I always ask for some extra on the side. I just need that extra bit of dunking to really lather it up.

Bedtime snack….which is so rare these days as I am literally never at home at night anymore. Sigh. My beloved bed time snack... is the last of the blueberry banana muffin tops I made from athletic avocado with a cup of chaga mushroom apple cider which I got from work. I don’t really do beverages, so that’s something I’m trying to slowly move into my dietary intake a bit more. It’s pretty hard to say no to a homemade apple cider steamed with organic, Ontario chaga mushroom for all its antioxidant and healing properties! How cool is that, eh?

    That peameal bacon! I was born and raised in upstate New York so we had access to peameal bacon and it was soooo good! I love in Texas now and can’t find it anywhere😢

      I always forget that “pea meal” or “Canadian bacon” is not a big thing in many areas of the states!! Funny thing is here we don’t even call it Canadian bacon! Aha. Wish I could mail some your way.

    I haven’t had a wrap in SO LONG! I LOVE all of your baking combos, your yogurt bowls, and I also love the sound of that delicious cinnamon raisin bread. 🙂 It’s so fun to splurge on a baked goodie or chocolate or ice cream for me! 🙂 Also, I agree with you on the sauces. They really work to bring together the flavors.

    LOL definitely relate on the breakfast food at home all day front. Just so great to make yourself oats or pancakes for dinner. I would say I’m saucy, but not in the sense you meant 😉 Whenever I eat in the college dining hall, though, it’s ALL about the sriracha

    yes please i will take one of each of what you’re having!!! i had 3 different cupcakes for *lunch* today which was totally unplanned but TOTALLY awesome. i love my sweets and love decadent yumminness annnnnnnnny time 🙂 i definitely love my carbs some days more than others, and i can tell it’s my hormones. yay love those hormones. NOT. haha. its’ fascinating, our bodies are so darn fascinating!!!

    A girl after my own heart with all of these delectable breakfast options. Seriously, this pregnancy has had me wanting all the toast for like every meal. And you just reminded me of your delicious sweet potato pizza crust – it’s SO GOOD. I’m glad the reintroduction of yogurt has gone well so far. I am a total dipper by nature. Whenever I order anything, Ed always asks for the extra ketchup, or syrup, or what have you, because I’m obviously going to need more.

    i’ve been loving toast too! peanut butter banana toast is my all time fave. but lately i’ve also been loving toast with butter or cream cheese! bagels are a favorite of mine too.
    breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, i think i could have it for every single meal!

      I think I like bagels even more than toast. PB and banana is the classic, but if I’m having a bagel I go the cream cheese route. Somehow there is a difference!

    Yay! Glad to hear you’ve been getting in those wraps you’ve been craving!
    I have yet to find cinnamon raisin toast that’s both low-fructose and gluten-free. But that sounds soooo good. With melty butter. Guess I’ll have figure out how to make my own, darn it!

      Yes I think you absolutely will. Are you okay with raisins in small amounts? Spread with lots of butter is really the best way to go.

    Have me over for breakfast, please? I could definitely use a change from my routine there and I haven’t had waffles in ages because I don’t own a waffle maker.
    Saucy is where it’s at. My sister told me what she ate the other night – potatoes, vegetables and vegan sausages – and she had no sauce with it. And when I visited them a while ago the whole pot of sauce was just a little more than I’d usually make for myself. So long story short: I’m with you on sauces and the idea of asking for extra when eating out is brilliant.
    I did remember you having to cut out yoghurt due to your stomach issues and was wondering how you were doing in that regard these days. Hoping the yoghurt is a sign of feeling better overall.
    Cravings … such a tricky issue for me lately. It definitely used to be carbs until recently and now it’s yoghurt which I do not understand. Maybe it’s because I’m unwilling to consider needing to eat more protein as that’s kind of trendy these days and I’m not one for those trends.

      Yogurt is a very interesting craving. What kind do you eat…soy? Maybe it’s your body’s way of asking for more calcium and/or protein. Whatever the case I say listen to it. Yogurt is yummy and so easy to go down!

      Your family needs a lesson in saucery. I say show them how it’s done.

    I’m right there with you on the toast. Toast is always good. I was planning to make some (plain) bread this weekend, but now that you mention cinnamon raisin bread it sounds really good…as do bagels. Hmmm.

      I love that you make bread. I tried making my own cinnamon raisin bread once and it was super dry. Need to try again. I also have a bagel recipe on my list of things to make.

      If you get this can you send over your favorite regular bread recipe? I need one I can trust.

    Eh that apple cider sounds incredible! I want some and can imagine it would be the perfect end to the day.
    Also breakfast is my jam. Being at home means I have time to prepare it and savor it… And boy I do!
