Today. We’re keeping it real.
For WIAW, I usually try to document a day of eats where I was able to be at home for at least one of my meals – if not two. This allows me to a) eat off a plate b) make something fresh and/or new c) take pictures that may even look pleasing. All things I love to do and share!
Buuuuut these types of days have about a 15% frequency rate. The remainder of the days are often much more… how to say it… “take out” esque.
Being so busy will fully scheduled days – workshops, classes and rehearsals back to back – I am often away from the house form 8:30 am – 10 pm. Thus, I rely on a good meal prep on Sundays so that I can have my meals all set to go. Aka. Que the tupperware!
So for this week, I chose to show you exactly what one of those more typical days look like. Where any sense of class you may have thought I had (bahaha) can be reassessed, and you can see me for all my fast-fooding, leftover using, tupperware washing, freezer scavenging ways. Let’s take it back to Monday.
Some mornings, if I have to be at rehearsal extra early, I choose to take myself out and eat somewhere closer to my theatre. This means I don’t have to rush as much in the house, I can eat and catch up on blogs at a more preferred time, and only need to leave five minutes to get myself to the space. Not to mention, sometimes being in my house makes me feel anxious, and being out somewhere else just feels more relaxing.
More time and less distraction = less stress = health goal win.
Multigrain Bagel + Cream Cheese + Turkey Bacon + Coffee
So this morning, I got myself ready, biked to Tim Hortons (epitome of class) and was able to enjoy a good 45 minute sit down. I’ve been having the same thing a few times in a row now and am loving the combo. Confession: I bring my own pieces of turkey bacon in order to add some extra protein (and flava). Uncooth to bring your own food into a fast food joint? Quite possibly. Will I continue? Most likely.
As always, lunch is a smorgasbord of leftovers. This one may have been a little more eclectic than usual.
I really wanted to use up any last bits of things I had in my fridge so that I could dive into my new creations from the weekend. I know how delicious those balls and cakes are, but my food-waste guilt just won’t let me dive in anymore until I’ve used up the previous weeks’ remnants.

So into the tupperware they went. My random leftover lunches always manage to be delicious. And this one did not disappoint.
Followed soon after by an apple to satisfy the crunch craving.

This snack just makes me “awwwww.”
I had a friend offer me a couple homemade cookies she had made on the weekend. The most classic M&M – which was always my favorite as a child – and mint chocolate chip. They were the perfect accompaniment to my afternoon tea break and gave me a nice little trip down memory lane. Nothing beats classic homemade cookies. #realbutter #realsugar #glutenfreeveganpaleowhat!?

Although I had long enough break in-between rehearsals, I chose to pack something up in order to stay at the hall and get more work down (even though the rest of my spinach artichoke chicken was calling my name at home). I had some leftover TVP mix from my delicious lasagna creation sitting in the freezer, so decided to make use of it the best way I know how – stuff it into yet another cousin of the spud family. After all, I did stock up on the weekend. Seriously. Squash/potato vessels just make everything better.
And they work so perfectly for packed up meals. It’s a bowl within a bowl.

Oh hey look – I did eat something at home. I ‘ve been getting home between 10 and 10:30 and, as per my routine, have been staying up to do some reading and relax on the couch. This always involves tea and some form of snackery.
Pretzels + Dark Chocolate + Blueberries
I really did need some more crunch in my day. And carbs. And chocolate… obviously. And I’m still going by what I said last week – blueberries make the flavor of anything pop right out.

All I can say is thank goodness for meal prep.
