WIAW: Keeping It Real. Tupz style.

Today. We’re keeping it real.

WHAT-I-ATE-WEDNESDAY-NEW-BUTTON-PEAS-AND-CRAYONS

For WIAW, I usually try to document a day of eats where I was able to be at home for at least one of my meals – if not two. This allows me to a) eat off a plate b) make something fresh and/or new c) take pictures that may even look pleasing.  All things I love to do and share!

Buuuuut these types of days have about a 15% frequency rate. The remainder of the days are often much more… how to say it… “take out” esque.

Being so busy will fully scheduled days – workshops, classes and rehearsals back to back – I am often away from the house form 8:30 am – 10 pm. Thus, I rely on a good meal prep on Sundays so that I can have my meals all set to go. Aka. Que the tupperware!

So for this week, I chose to show you exactly what one of those more typical days look like. Where any sense of class you may have thought I had (bahaha) can be reassessed, and you can see me for all my fast-fooding, leftover using, tupperware washing, freezer scavenging ways.  Let’s take it back to Monday.

Breakfast:

Some mornings, if I have to be at rehearsal extra early, I choose to take myself out and eat somewhere closer to my theatre. This means I don’t have to rush as much in the house, I can eat and catch up on blogs at a more preferred time, and only need to leave five minutes to get myself to the space.  Not to mention, sometimes being in my house makes me feel anxious, and being out somewhere else just feels more relaxing.

More time and less distraction = less stress = health goal win.

Multigrain Bagel + Cream Cheese + Turkey Bacon + Coffee

So this morning, I got myself ready, biked to Tim Hortons  (epitome of class) and was able to enjoy a good 45 minute sit down. I’ve been having the same thing a few times in a row now and am loving the combo.  Confession: I bring my own pieces of turkey bacon in order to add some extra protein (and flava).  Uncooth to bring your own food into a fast food joint? Quite possibly. Will I continue? Most likely.

Plus coffee.

Lunch:

As always, lunch is a smorgasbord of leftovers. This one may have been a little more eclectic than usual.

I really wanted to use up any last bits of things I had in my fridge so that I could dive into my new creations from the weekend.  I know how delicious those balls and cakes are, but my food-waste guilt just won’t let me dive in anymore until I’ve used up the previous weeks’ remnants.

Massaged kale salad with roasted potatoes + corn + lentils + feta

+ fresh dill + lemon tahini dressing

So into the tupperware they went.  My random leftover lunches always manage to be delicious. And this one did not disappoint.

Followed soon after by an apple to satisfy the crunch craving.

Eh! I took a picture for you guys this time. You’re welcome.

Snack:

This snack just makes me “awwwww.”

I had a friend offer me a couple homemade cookies she had made on the weekend. The most classic M&M – which was always my favorite as a child – and mint chocolate chip. They were the perfect accompaniment to my afternoon tea break and gave me a nice little trip down memory lane. Nothing beats classic homemade cookies. #realbutter #realsugar #glutenfreeveganpaleowhat!?

Dinner:

Although I had long enough break in-between rehearsals, I chose to pack something up in order to stay at the hall and get more work down (even though the rest of my spinach artichoke chicken was calling my name at home).  I had some leftover TVP mix from my delicious lasagna creation sitting in the freezer, so decided to make use of it the best way I know how – stuff it into yet another cousin of the spud family. After all, I did stock up on the weekend. Seriously. Squash/potato vessels just make everything better.

And they work so perfectly for packed up meals.  It’s a bowl within a bowl.

IMGP4481

Baked Sweet Potato stuffed with Mexican TVP/pepper/onion mix + spinach + feta + avocado

Snack:

Oh hey look – I did eat something at home. I ‘ve been getting home between 10 and 10:30 and, as per my routine, have been staying up to do some reading and relax on the couch. This always involves tea and some form of snackery.

Pretzels + Dark Chocolate + Blueberries

I really did need some more crunch in my day.  And carbs.  And chocolate… obviously.  And I’m still going by what I said last week – blueberries make the flavor of anything pop right out.

So welcome to a day of packed up meals. Brought to you by honesty and real living. Full up class. Full up delicious.

All I can say is thank goodness for meal prep.

Roll out. Homeboooyz.

Do you ever bring your own food into a fast food restaurant?

Do you ever take yourself out to breakfast just so you can have more time to relax?

Are you a guilt stricken leftover user-uper?

Taking bacon anywhere is always allowed. Because everything can be improved by bacon! Right?! 🙂
I always use my leftovers. Always. I really hate seeing anything go to waste, even if it’s just bagging it up and popping it in the freezer for another day. Then again, David is usually quite happy to eat anything that needs eating!

You speak the truth. Ev.ery.thing. Bacon.
I’m so glad you agree. I freeze everything. Even the smallest bits. Great that you have some help to finish off everything.

I love taking myself out for a bagel. We have a place nearby that makes incredible ones. I haven’t ever taken bacon to a restaurant, but I have been known to bring other things like almonds for my salad.
I think you are being very sensible by eating your meals out of tupperware right now. No need to rush home. The only hard thing for me would be not eating all my food too early. Haha.
Also that evening snack is perfection!! I love the combo.

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

A good bagel really makes all the difference. This would have been wonderful if it was a real montreal style.
Sweet and salty all the way!

  3. SuzLyfe | 27th Jan 16

Dude, you eat better Tupperware style than I do, period. My problem when I am carrying food is that I can’t keep from eating it just because it is there, rather than waiting until it is the right time/hunger to eat.

Bagels are the BEST! 🙂 I don’t normally go out for work, so I rarely take lunches or food with me, but most of the other foodie bloggers are way better at that discipline than me. 😀

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

They really are! Especially the fresh baked montreal style kind. Mmmmmmm.

  5. bucketlisttummy | 27th Jan 16

Even your tupperware meals look beautiful – very impressed, Cora! And I would totally be your dynamic duo with bringing my own food in somewhere. I once bought a coffee from Dunkin Donuts and snuck it into Starbucks because I had a free DD coupon and refused to buy one at Starbucks. You win some, you lose some. Those M and M cookies do remind me of my childhood!

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

Aha! I am so glad I’m not the only one who would absolutely do this. Free coffee over paying for coffee annnnyday.

  6. Morgan @ Managing Mommyhood | 27th Jan 16

Clearly I have the wrong kind of friends because I’m always the one making the cookies, never receiving! You dinner looks SO tasty!

  7. katalysthealth | 27th Jan 16

its TOTALLY ok to bring your own food into a place. I do it all the time! As long as I order something from them I dont feel so bad. True story – I met my hubby for lunch at In N Out, but since I dont eat that stuff I came in with a huge bag of Chipotle. Just sat in the booth with my big old bag and waited for my hubby. Only slightly awkward lol

I am totally a food guilt-user upper. Does that make sense? We don’t waste anything! In fact, when Matilda doesn’t finish something from her meal, I stick it in the fridge for her next meal.
I love your idea of taking yourself out to breakfast. It sounds so lovely!

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

Totally makes sense. I am one to the utmost. Love that you are even bringing it into Matilda’s meals. She’s being brought up right!

  9. Anna-Marie @BeautyandtheBeets | 27th Jan 16

I love using a sweet potato as the base for a meal. I stuff them with a lot of things but avocados are always my favorites!!

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

Oooooh yeah avocados and sweet potatoes were meant to be together.

  10. Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets | 27th Jan 16

    Roll out….with the top down.

Your leftovers make amazing lunches, and yes, yes, yes to more crunch, chocolate and carbs. My favorite C’s right after homemade cookies. 🙂

I’m definitely a leftover user-upper. Occasionally I’ll say F-It. But I always feel super guilty a few days later when I’m putting food in the trash.

Also, this hashtag made me LOL

Ohhh baby I’ve been rocking the tupperware lately too. I have a couple of long school days this semester and my lunch bag usually contains no less than 10 containers haha. They don’t always have things as tasty-looking as your meals though!! And I love that you bring your own bacon to Tim’s! And that M&M cookie reminds me of the ones at Subway. SO.GOOD!

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

Baha oh man do I hear you. I have like a whole reusable grocery bag full of my food for the day. The thought of fitting it all into an actual “lunch bag?” Yeah, no.

  13. Ellie | 28th Jan 16

ALL THESE THINGS! To save $$ I bring my lunch or breakfast to the coffee shop and just buy coffee. I also have severe leftover guilt because I hate throwing thing away. I love typing all the random ingredients I have into Pinterest and see the crazy creations! Today I really wanted some cheese ramen (if you haven’t had it, GET SOME!) but I had mung beans in my fridge to eat…so why not add them to the noodles. It almost makes them healthy haha It’s crazy but it works for me =P
Good thing I love brown bananas because I have a lot of them

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

Yup – always bring food and just buy coffee. I definitely know you are a fan of using up EVERYTHING… no due date or back of pantry keeps you away 🙂
Never heard of cheese ramen… I don’t even think I’ve had regular ramen..

      • Ellie | 29th Jan 16

It’s really comforting on cold days or when you’re sick. When my roommate was sick a few weeks ago she went through a case!

  14. Joyce | 28th Jan 16

That tends to my how my day of eats goes as well. I literally run out of Tupperware if I haven’t washed the dishwasher in two days…which is impressive, considering how much Tupperware I own. : P

    • mylittletablespoon | 28th Jan 16

Hahaha. I need a second set of drawers just for my tupperware overflow.

  15. GiGi Eats Celebrities | 28th Jan 16

THOSE COOKIES!! Whomever that friend is who made them for you – IS A KEEPER!!!

  16. cookiesnchem | 29th Jan 16

Oh my goodness I’m loving your eats as usual! The squash bowl in a bowl looks wonderful and I love how you add dill to the lunch. What a great idea! Gives everything a restaurant quality 🙂

    • mylittletablespoon | 30th Jan 16

Since I needed dill for one thing and you can only buy it in such large quantities I’ve been throwing it on everything! Makes things so pretty

      • cookiesnchem | 30th Jan 16

My mom once taught me to pinch off a piece of dill at the grocery store and sneak it into a bag of broccoli or something so you don’t have to buy the entire… stalk! LOL! Kinda stealing

  17. masala girl | 30th Jan 16

yes yes yes. always use leftovers. i LOVE leftovers! have definitely brought my own food out LOL and always will still. why pay $$$$ for a teeny thing when i can get a meal, be out with people, and doctor it up a bit if needed 🙂
(brb getting fruit and dar chocolate now hah)

  18. lilmissfitnessfreak | 2nd Feb 16

you tupperware meals look fab! I always hate eating out of them but if I must, they better be damn good haha. Oh and I totally bring my own things (dressings, etc) to places hahah no shame 😛
